I just feel that a modern audience wouldn't respond as well to it as other, admittedly more popular, contemporary plays. That said, it could play much better on stage than it does on the paper, as most every play does. While issues of xenophobia (specifically antisemitism) and the stresses and traumas faced by soldiers in war are still relevant, the language itself-at least for me-is very much locked in that mid-century period and wouldn't come off terribly well on a stage right now. Likewise, this play doesn't transcend time quite as well as those of the other three playwrights. Laurents is a very good writer, but it feels very much like a slightly less developed version of Neil Simon, Eugene O'Neill, or Arthur Miller.
